What it actually is
Rose quartz is quartz coloured by microscopic mineral fibres distributed through the crystal: the pink is a structural feature of the stone rather than a coating or a dye. It is the one stone on this page with a real weakness: strong direct sunlight fades it over months. That is not a defect and not a sign of a fake; it is what rose quartz does. Mohs 7. Where it sits in the tradition
Honest answer: rose quartz is not in the classical navaratna or uparatna lists at all. Modern Indian practice often groups it with Shukra on colour, and that is a modern association, not a scriptural one. If a seller tells you it is the recognised substitute for a diamond, they are inventing.

Is rose quartz a substitute for heera?
Not in the classical lists. Clear quartz (sphatik) and white sapphire are the stones named there. Rose quartz is a modern association.
